Some of 2014

Coming to the end of every year i always like to look back at what movies i have seen. I´ve probably seen half of what´s been released this year, and now i´d like to give people a chance to hear about a couple of them through very critical eyes.

2013 had some great releases! My fave "The conjuring" kicked me in the face, and "Sinister" really fucked my head. I am even one of the few who actually likes "The purge".

Going into 2014 i knew there was a lot of sequels on the line, and i´m at the point now where i´m more afraid of how the producers or directors are gonna scar the franchises forever.
Sequels was cool, now they´re beyond milking i think!

But having known about "Annabelle" for a while, and as mentioned "The conjuring" really got me, i was looking forward to that possessed little doll in it´s own movie. But speaking with a broken heart, the only thing good here was bits from the trailer. The acting isn´t the worst thing, it´s the constant logical breaks in the story that blows majorly ass! They´re expecting to start production on "The conjuring 2", and i know i´m gonna watch iy, but unfortunately i´ll probably cry myself to sleep afterwards.

Moving along... Let´s talk about another highly expected movie, Scott Derricksons "Deliver us from evil". Deliver me from shait was the first thing on my mind watching this boring, non-scary police-horror waste of time. I have the highest respect for Derrickson(Exorcism of Emily Rose and Sinister), but this i think was pointless to do. Here again i was sold watching the trailer, but it was totally misgiving.
The movie has like 6.2 on IMDb witch i can´t comprehend.
When i heard about this next movie i got real exited. "Zombieavers" is just the perfect title for a great horror-comedy in the veins of "Shaun of the dead".
And honestly it actually started of like that. It even took some time before they mention a beaver-joke :)
The movie is obviously not made by the greatest film-makers, but for me this is close to good, cheap and very easy entertainment the day after a night of bingedrinking.
Check it out, but take it for what it is...

Let it be said that Daniel Radcliffe surpriced me in a positive way in "The woman in black". I haven´t seen as much of the later "Potter"-films, so it was good to see him in a different role. He sorely wants to get rid of the "Harry Potter"-stamp, and doing horror and other strange things help with that. And you are gonna look a long time before finding something more special than Alexandre Aja´s "Horns".
I really like Aja, and especially "Haute tension" and ofcourse the remake of "The hills have eyes" Those two are brilliant! But his story goes like every one else's. They come to Hollywood, and things change. Aja has showed us his interesset in the abnormal many times, but with "Horns" he basically goes to far. Maybe he was given completely freedom and just did it for fun, because i really don´t think this is a good movie. There´s no particular tension, Radcliffe does a good job, but the film gets to unnatural in the end that i lost interesset completly.

I read many reviews of this British film that everyone i praising, and speak about it like it was the second coming. "Housebound" is no second coming, but it was a cool little film.
The story not particular inventive, but there wasn´t much time to feel bored.
But since we´re on the topic, i think people get to exited when films like these gets released.
Okay! It had a shoestring budget, okay the actors are real, okay there are some good gore...
But don´t praise the movie like it´s a got damn treasure just because it´s not made in the US, and they made it for very little money. Europe makes shoestring-bugdet films all the time, it´s not like this is a new thing! But if you haven´t yet, go check it out.

As i mentioned in the beginning, i really liked "The purge". I see that everybody else hates it, but then i conclude that those people don´t know what they´re talking about.
And this is why i really was looking forward to the second one "Anarchy".

But after watching this, obviously made just to ride of the concept i was very angry. It has a story-line that unveils more and more, but everything is to easy. Found it very boring even if there´s almost action all the time. The technical aspect isn`t the problem, it´s the case that i don´t care about any of the characters in this "make it, get it out there, and let´s count the cash".
I can´t recommend this to anyone else but those who´s only out for sadistic action all the way.

Joe Lynch made this film a long time ago, and it was released 2014. This little gem started of fucking fantastic where we as audience gets a peak into how "dungeons and dragons"-geeks really are. I laugh really hard during the first act because there are some great dialogue there. The geeks awaken a demon while playing role-play and all hell breaks loose.  Some good gore-scenes here and there, but then we get to the end. And o´boy did i wanna destroy the screen!!! It got ridiculous to the point where i actually fast-forwarded to get to the end credits.
I´ve heard the director Joe Lynch got thrown out of the editing room, and he talks about this all the time. I´m now thinking that that might be an excuse, because i don´t think they did extra-shooting.
So what could he have done better? I´m not sure if the whole thing is a 100% true anymore.
Mr. Lynch is gonna release "Everly" this year and i can´t fucking wait to see Salma Hayek blazing machineguns the whole movie!

One of my favourite horror-films are "The strangers", and when i heard the director was coming with a new film i couldn´t wait to see it. Then i learned that it was found footage, and i got a littele skeptical.
And i retrospect it took me a long time to realise that this was a very dissapointing movie from start to end. Considering i love "The strangers" i couldn´t understand why this movie is even out.
A question i would love to ask the drier is this: "What movie are you more happy with? This or "The strangers"?
It´s just boring throughout. Some creepy and horrifying scenes, but this is just to keep you sitting there not losing ALL interest.
Don´t bother checking this out...

Kevin Smith is an interesting guy i think. He makes very special films, and suddenly he turns up as an actor in several movies, including "Die Hard"
I guess he is best known as "Silent Bob", but mr. Smith has made a couple of really cool movies.
Check out "Red state". Real, and disturbing.

Okay... "Tusk". This is a weird film. Very weird. Not so much in the beginning, but then we reach the the second act and everything just goes completely too far.
The fantastic lures Justin Long to his house out in the boondocks and makes him into a walrus. Yeah, weird is the word your looking for.
The actors really delivers, but for me this isn`t Smith´s greatest, but by far the one i will NEVER forget.
Absolutely wurth a try, but mostly for the extreme shock-effect.

I´ve decided to round up this blog with the Aussie-horrorfilm which is on everyone´s lips, "The Babadok". Pretty easy story, kid sees monster in room, acts out in school, mum gets frustrated, and then the Babadook takes over the mum and some horror-scenes appear.
I don`t get why this is supposed to be such a great masterpiece. Again reviewers in the US gets mental when something with low budget comes from other countries. It´s NOT as good as people say, trust me!!!

Check it out for your selves and read the reviews before you see it. They paint a different painting then you´ll see.

That´s all for now folks... :)
